Hey y’all! Last weekend, I attended my best friend’s wedding in Peterborough, a small town about 45 minutes outside of London. This was the first of my closest friends to get married, as well as the first time I’ve had the honor of being in a wedding party. After attending upward of 30 weddings in my lifetime (and that’s a stingy estimate… I’m Persian), and crying at every single one, I incorrectly believed that I was fully equipped to handle the festivities — to my detriment. I was inconsolable, from the 9:00 a.m. bridal suite to the 3:00 a.m. after-party. One of my (guy) friends even said to me, “I admire how in touch you are with your emotions.” Lol.
Let me tell you a little about my bestiana, Cassidy, the most elegant, beautiful bride. (In the church, where Mary Queen of Scott’s was beheaded by the way RIP, I literally thought to myself, it’s too bad Cass would never submit photos of her wedding to a bridal magazine because she deserves to be seen by the masses.)
We first met when we were 18. College freshmen. English majors, the annoying kind that likes to raise their hands in class. Romanticized the French. Ended up studying abroad together in Paris together. Friends first, roommates second. Lived in a rat-infested house our senior year. Cass’s room was technically a closet. Zero windows. We would sit cross-legged on her bed and talk about the future. She would be a Big Time book editor. I would write the books. We would fall in love and live happily ever after.
This summer, the two of us are getting married two months apart — to Englishmen, no less. We are bridesmaids in each other’s weddings. She’s a Big Time book editor. I’m publishing my second book. In some ways, we are all grown up. In others, we’re still two girls, stumbling downstairs after a night out, to debrief on the couch over large iced coffees from Saxby’s. Here’s the report:
READING: Could June be shaping up to be my best reading month yet? We’re only one day away from the halfway point of the year, and as of today, I’m at 75 books. And this week, I added another book to my top five of the year thus far…
